With all the technological advancements when it comes to mobile phones, the trend of late has been to push for bigger and sharper displays rocking some crazy resolutions juiced up with some beefy processors and at the same time cut down on thickness.
Device manufacturers are all about outdoing each other in a bid to gain more market share and it is here that Chinese phone maker Oppo has decided to make a clear distinction by launching the world’s thinnest phone – the Oppo R5 that is only 4.85mm thick. That by any standard is insanely thin, compare it to the recently launched iPad air 2 which is 6.1mm thick and the Huawei Ascend p7 coming in at 6.5mm thick.
Oppo did their best not to compromise allot when designing this 4.85mm thick device. The Oppo R5 comes with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display, an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, and 13-megapixel camera, however the battery is only 2,000mAh in capacity which is expected for a phone this thin.
One major drawback however on this device is that there wasn’t room to fit in the standard 3.5mm audio jack. In fact, you will find no audio jack at all on the device, it appears Oppo simply decided to do away with it given that you can connect the phone to a pair of bluetooth speakers or bluetooth headphones. A small price to pay for being this skinny, but I guess it is worth it.
